Abstract

This research project consists of a 2000-word translation of an extract from Alberto Flandes’ article ‘Los Retos de Apolo y Artemisa,’ a non-fiction science article published in November 2022. The extract details the history of challenges the Apollo space programme faced in the 20th century and compares these challenges to those faced by the Apollo space programme’s descendant, the Artemis space programme. The translation is from Spanish into British English, with the aim of providing an equally informative and accurate target text. The translation is accompanied by a 2000-word commentary outlining the challenges faced during translation. It covers topics such as target audience, text skopos, genre, text type, cultural issues and other specific challenges encountered when translating a technical text. The commentary is supported by extensive theory, literature, and parallel texts that were used to overcome the challenges posed in the process of translation. A bibliography outlining these sources is provided at the end.
