Patel, Leyla (2024) Global examination of media reports on fraud cases where the victims have committed suicide and attempted to commit suicide. (unpublished BSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth
Abstract
Fraud-related suicide and attempts of suicide are often overlooked within literature. This research will conduct a global examination of media reports on fraud cases, where victims have committed suicide and attempted to commit suicide. This research aims to expand the limited literature on fraud-related suicide and attempts of suicide cases, identify commonalities between real-life cases and provide further awareness on the serious impact fraud has toward victims. This research will conduct a meta and document analysis of 100 cases, in order to achieve these aims. The creation of graphs and detailed discussions have been compiled showing qualitative and quantitative data gathered. Overall, commonalities were discovered between the 100 cases; one example found that males accounted for far larger proportions than females becoming victims. The 18 categories under analysis provide valuable data on key factors within fraud-related suicide and attempts of suicide cases, which not only has enhanced on limited literature within this area, but can possibly aid and encourage conduction of future research in this field.
