Abstract

The gamification of personality tests is a largely unexplored area of games research and literature. This project investigates how the gameplay experience and subsequent opinions from players of a gamified personality test can be investigated and thematically analysed in order to further the understanding of those player’s personality traits and their views on gamification. It also explores how implementing a specific theme alongside various audiovisual elements may or may not influence the way players approach the test in both three-dimensional and two-dimensional gameplay environments. An in-depth literature review which researches elements of psychological literature, personality testing models and game design principles alongside existing titles serves to inform the methodology which utilises a predominantly subjective qualitative approach, with some quantitative elements. Following a primary research user testing technique, the study offers game designers and researchers a foundation for further investigations into how games can be used as a platform for personality testing.
