Thompson, Charlie (Charles) (2024) Changes to accessibility in modern gameplay. (unpublished BSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth

Abstract

Within this dissertation, I will be looking at what has changed in the computer game development lifecycle to include more accessible features for disabled players and what has prompted this change. Using first hand interviews with industry professionals and information gathered from other interviews and articles written around the topic.Alongside data gathered from disability charities, who have looked at the volume of disabled players. As well as looking into a groundbreaking piece of software currently in development, that has the potential to display a new way for games to be played by visually impaired gamers. Many games released in recent years, including the last of us part 2, have paved the way for games that are near fully accessible through the volume of features provided to the players. This game, and others, show that more accessible features in games gain a larger audience as more people are able to enjoy the same game, regardless of their disabilities.
