Watkins, Niamh (2024) How can a compelling narrative be conveyed through environmental design?. (unpublished BSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth
Abstract
This project is a study of how environmental storytelling can be effectively used within games to tell a story. The artefact will be a short game which only uses environmental storytelling to convey the narrative. Existing literature on this topic will be studied in order to find the optimal techniques to use within the given time, and games that effectively use environmental storytelling will be examined to discover what methods they use to achieve this. After the artefact is made playtesting sessions will be carried out, the success of the artefact will be determined based on the responses of the participants and whether they were able to interpret a narrative from the environment design.
