Nour, Omar (2024) Digital twin: leveraging sustainability in urban environments. (unpublished MSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth
Abstract
Urbanization presents extensive challenges to sustainability, including resource depletion, energy deficiency and waste aggravation. In response, this research explores the transformative potential of digital twin technology in addressing these sustainability challenges within urban environments. Digital twins, virtual representations of physical assets or systems, offer a promising approach by providing real-time insights, predictive analytics, and decision support tools. Through a comprehensive literature review and analysis of case study, this research will examine the applications of digital twins in various domains such as waste management, energy efficiency and waste reduction. It will also discuss the opportunities, challenges, and future directions for leveraging digital twins to achieve sustainability goals in urban areas.
