Silverthorne, Adam (2019) Designing a prototype housing review mobile application with accompanying media. (unpublished BSc dissertation), University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth

Abstract

With “almost half of the UK has average rents higher than the Maintenance Loan on offer. In other words, once you’ve paid rent, you might not have enough left to pay for food or bills.” (Bushi, 2019) Housing is a big issue for students, especially when the properties that come from private landlords aren’t always the best kept. In order to help create better student housing accommodation within Portsmouth, a prototype of a housing review mobile application will be designed. It will have accompanying digital design document that helps to give a clear understanding of the design process and the application itself, in more of a visual manner.

By researching case studies of existing review platforms, the prototype will be built upon the information gained, improved upon and related to housing accommodation. A user test was supplied to a select group of people to see if the design of the prototype works with general users. The results of which, were evidently positive with the conclusion being that the prototype met the needs of the users. On this basis, it is recommended that an application such as this is fully implemented to support students and better their accommodation.
