BioMed Central is the largest open access publisher in the world, publishing over 200 peer-reviewed open access journals across the fields of biology, chemistry and medicine.


• Geobase 

GeoBase is a multidisciplinary database of bibliographic information and abstracts that indexes journal literature across the earth sciences including geology, human and physical geography, environmental sciences, oceanography andgeomechanics from 1980-present. Updated weekly,GeoBase contains 1.8 million records with over 100,000 new records added annually.

• Greenfile

GreenFILE covers research information on all aspects of human impact to the environment. Its collection of scholarly, government and general-interest titles includes content on the environmental effects of individuals, corporations and local/national governments, and what can be done at each level to minimize these effects. This is a multidisciplinary resource and topics include global climate change, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling, and more.

Global Plants is a community-contributed database used by students and researchers. Global Plants lets herbaria share their plant type specimens, experts determine and update plant names, and students discover and learn about plants in context

  • Medline contain journal article abstracts with links to the full-text where available

Why

  • Subjects covered include veterinary medicine, pharmacy, allied health, and pre-clinical sciences. Plus life sciences, including some aspects of biology, marine biology, plant and animal science as well as biophysics and chemistry.

How

  • Keyword and Thesaurus searching with ability to refine results by date, article type, age, gender, author, language

  • This database is available to search on its own from the link above, plus you will find Medline results when searching Discovery.

• PubMed 

PubMed comprises millions of citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals and online books. Citations may include links to full-text content from PubMed Central and publisher websites

ScienceDirect's extensive and unique full text database covers authoritative titles from the core scientific literature, published by Elsevier. More than 2,500 journals and more than nine million full-text articles are available in ScienceDirect providing access to the physical sciences and engineering life sciences. This resource is also available through the Discovery service. A Science Direct Advanced Search guide video is available.


• Scopus 

What:

Scopus is the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature: scientific journals, books and conference proceedings. 

Why:

This database can be searched by keywords to find relevant articles. It is also possible to perform a cited reference search allowing you to snowball through the literature to find articles using citations.

Online help for this database is available via the Scopus website.

What:

Web of Science - part of the Web of Knowledge collection of databases - consists of a number of databases containing information gathered from thousands of scholarly journals, books, book series, reports and conferences.

Why:

This database can be searched by keywords to find relevant articles.  It is also possible to perform a cited reference search allowing you to snowball through the literature to find articles using citations.

How:
